How to use your "at home solarium" for best results.
Some facts you should know:
PACE YOURSELF
Start off with 5-10 minutes per side of your body. Set the timer for the first 5-10 minutes, turn over and set the timer again for the second 5-10 minutes. Don't exceed 10 minutes per side for your first couple of days, gradually build your exposure time up by adding 5 minutes per side every couple of days. The solarium canopy should be approximately 6 inches above you. We recommend you never exceed 30 minutes per side of your body . Remember overexposure is of no use! The best and longest lasting tan is a gradual one. We recommend that you use the solarium every second day.
SKIN TYPES
Some people tan easier and faster than others. About 10-12 sessions should produce your tan. Fair skinned people may need extra sessions and it is preferable to do this than increase your exposure time per session. People with skin type 1, i.e. extremely fair skin, do not tan and should not use a solarium.
CREAM
Do not use any suntan creams, oils or lotions whilst under the solarium, they will hinder rather than help your tan. We do suggest using using a good moisturising lotion straight after your tanning session. This will help lock your tan in and keep your skin supple. Cosmetics and perfumes must not be worn whilst using the solarium as they can block your pores and cause skin irritations. Fresh clean skin is advised.
EYES
Please use the goggles as a safety measure, just like sunglasses for a sunny day.
COMPLETELY NUDE OR NOT
In the privacy of your home why not? An all over tan may appeal to you, however it is nice to have a spot or two to remind you what a great tan you have. Be careful breasts, bottoms and other areas have thinner layers of skin which are more sensitive whether they have been exposed to the world or not. Limit exposure time for sensitive areas by covering them part way through a tanning session.
MEDICAL
Consult your doctor regarding the use of your solarium if you are feeling unwell, are pregnant or are taking prescription medication. Some drugs can make your skin very sensitive to UV light. If your skin feels tight or slightly irritated do not use the solarium the next day. Give your skin a rest for a few days and raise the solarium canopy a couple of inches.
THE EQUIPMENT
Your solarium can be connected to any 240V outlet. No preheating time is required. Operation is via the timer. Just turn the timer to desired time setting to activate. The solarium is on a moveable tripod-style stand so it can be moved out of the way, if necessary. Once the solarium is installed, avoid moving it too much, as the tubes are delicate. A bedroom is the ideal location, we advise against use in the bathroom. The UV tubes give off a slight odour initially and you may wish to ventilate the room whilst in operation.
